Nutrigro® Nutrition

Nutrition plays a part in optimum hair growth.
The secret is to eat your staple diet and make adjustments around this.

The Nutrigro® is based on eating 70% alkaline foods, emphasising on Pitta pacifying food. What does this mean? Let me explain: A diet that is going to be successful needs to be based on staple foods that one eats, that is low in fat, salt and sugar and rich in minerals. It also needs to have vitamins, protein, fibre, carbohydrate and Omega3 oils for healthy hair. Ideally, the diet should be 70% alkaline foods, emphasising on Pitta pacifying food.

Alkaline foods, simply mean foods rich in green vegetables, salads and fruit. Suitable Foods

Theory of how the Nutrigro® Nutrition Plan works

In Ayurveda, an ancient holistic Indian system, good health is maintained by the balancing of three subtle energies known as doshas. These three doshas are called Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

We are all made up of a unique combination of the three types of doshas. The three doshas are comprised of the five elements seen in the universe: ether (space), air, fire, water, and earth.

If one looks at nature we find that this too is made up of these five components and in approximately similar ratios. 70% earth is water, 30% land (earth), surrounded by air and space (area left when air is removed, leaving a vacuum) and fire (from the sun). This is why we are considered part of the cosmic nature of life.

Vata is a combination of air and space.

Pitta is mostly fire with some water.

Kapha is mostly water with some earth.

To enjoy optimal health you want to keep the doshas balanced. Any imbalance causes the body to be (dis)eased.
According to Ayurveda – hair thinning and hair loss is due to an imbalance of Pitta energies in the body.

Pitta energy is also responsible for metabolism in the organs, tissue systems and cellular metabolism, premature hair loss and hair thinning. When any of the doshas (Vata, Pitta or Kapha) accumulate in excess of our “norm” we need to reduce the dosha that has become excessive. Excess Pitta energy in the sebaceous gland, at the root of the hair, or folliculitis can cause a weakened hair. The Ayurvedic theory is to reduce or pacify the Pitta energy.

In Ayurveda, hair is considered to be a by-product of bone formation. The tissues responsible for building bones are also responsible for the growth of hair.

Which foods should be avoided as they increase Pitta energy in the body?
Excessive intake of tea, coffee, salt, alcohol, meats (particularly red), pickles, yoghurt, cheese and excessive smoking.
Eating too many fried, oily, greasy, spicy, sour and acidic foods also aggravates Pitta.

To counteract Pitta energy your diet should contain more green leafy vegetables, salads, milk, fruits and sprouts.

*Take more proteins, milk, buttermilk, cereals, yeast, wheat germ, soybean and vitamin A.
*Take cool or warm but not steaming hot foods
*Bitter, sweet, and astringent tastes
*Use less butter and added fat. Consume food with moderately heavy textures.
In summary, eat 70% alkaline foods (fruits and vegetables), balanced with the six tastes of foods,
emphasising on Pitta reducing foods.

Role of Vitamins in keeping hair healthy and maintaining existing hair growth

The word Vitamins comes from the Latin word vita - meaning life. Vitamins are needed for health, growth and maintaining body tissues.

Green vegetables are particularly alkaline and are a great source of vitamins and minerals. Raw vegetables have the advantage over cooked vegetables in that one does not lose some essential vitamins through cooking.

To pacify the Pitta dosha or energy, raw vegetables are more suitable than cooked, as they are more cooling in nature. All the essential vitamins are present in the correct amounts in the Nutrigro® Male Hair Food Capsules, Nutrigro® Female Hair Food Capsules and Nutrigro® Female Hair Food Plus Capsules

Role of Proteins in keeping hair healthy and maintaining existing hair growth

Protein is made up of amino acids. There are 22 amino acids that go to make thousands of proteins. Each protein performs a different function.

Proteins can be divided into complete and incomplete proteins. Eating correctly is therefore important. Proteins are needed for healthy hair and skin. 97% of our hair is keratin, a protein. To ensure we get the required proteins for healthy hair marine protein extracts are present in Nutrigro® Male Hair Food Capsules, Nutrigro® Female Hair Food Capsules and Nutrigro® Female Hair Food Plus Capsules.

Role of Free Radicals in keeping hair healthy and maintaining existing hair growth

Free Radicals - these are unstable oxygen molecules. They lack one or more electrons and are therefore in search of other molecules in order to “steal” an electron from them and hence become stable. Research shows that free radicals accelerate the aging process. Our body produces some antioxidants but we need to take sufficient amounts regularly of antioxidant vitamins and minerals to counteract the work of free radicals.

To neutralize the effect of free radicals antioxidants such as Vitamin C and Vitamin E are present, along with all the vitamins and minerals healthy hair need are in the Nutrigro® Male Hair Food Capsules, Nutrigro® Female Hair Food Capsules and Nutrigro® Female Hair Food Plus Capsule.
